Principal's Note

Jim Woytek - Principal

The mission of the Gunnison Elementary School is to develop lifelong learners in a safe, caring environment by providing a standards-based instruction at each student's level, meeting assessment targets, and increasing individual achievement.

 FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK:

Dear Families,

We're nearing the end of January and February 14th is just around the corner. That Friday is Valentine's Day, but it is also an early-release day for Gunnison Elementary School. Please be sure to keep your eyes out next week for an after-school program sign up for students. We will also have information regarding transportation. Lake School's schedule will be unchanged that day, and please note that Gunnison Middle School and Gunnison High School have regular school days on February 14th.

To follow up on an earlier Mustang Bulletin message to families, please remember that the school parking lot is for parking and walking into the school. If you are picking up your child or dropping them off without coming into the school or meeting your child on the playground, please use the drop-off loop parallel to 11th St. Next week, we will be handing out reminders to encourage drivers to follow this protocol. The safety and well-being of our students is paramount to our school mission and I appreciate your support in keeping our children, staff, families, and visitors safe.

Thanks to our fourth and fifth grade teams for a wonderful first week of skiing and CBMR! Have a wonderful weekend.

Best,

Jim Woytek
Principal

Happy New Year! I hope your children all had a wonderful Winter Break and have enjoyed their week back at school. This time of year is when we see some of our best academic growth, so it's an exciting way to start off the new decade!

With the snow and ice build-up in the parking lot, you may notice that the curb is not so pronounced as it is in warmer months. Please mind your speed in both the parking lot and the student drop off/pick up area. The safety of our students is our top priority and we appreciate you looking out for all kids! Likewise, please note this friendly reminder that the parking lot loop is for buses only. Please drop off or pick up your children in the loop parallel to 11th street. Only use the parking lot if you are parking in a space and walking into school.

I would also ask you to take note of a few changes at Gunnison Elementary School that are being implemented in this New Year. If you are picking up your child during the school day, we ask that you sign him or her out at the front office and wait for your child at the office while our staff pages the classroom. Your child will meet you at the front office. This will help limit distractions to teaching and learning. If you have questions, please feel free to address them to me.

Finally, in an effort to better prioritize my time to support teaching and learning, Mrs. Hannah and I are working together to make my schedule more conducive to spending more time in the classroom. This means I may seem less available for drop-in visits or telephone conversations. However, I deeply value communication with family and community members, so, when you would like to speak with me, please feel free to call or email Mrs. Hannah at the front desk, and she will schedule a time to speak.

Thank you for your patience while we continue to implement these changes and thank you for your ongoing support of our schools. Have a wonderful weekend.
